Exploring new reservoirs at mature fields of the Republic of Tatarstan

DOI:
The authors analyze the oil potential of locally productive formations within the territory of the Romashkinskoye field. Geological knowledge on these units is insufficient, the available data are fragmentary and need to be classified and integrated. This paper presents some recommended practices for further exploration of the Devonian and Carboniferous formations of the Romashkinskoye field.

Modeling thermal production of heavy oil considering temperature dependency of phase permeability

DOI:
Method for laboratory determination of the relative permeabilities for different temperatures using unsteady-state displacement experiments was developed. Method was used in experiments with compressed model made from highviscous oil saturated sands of Ashalchi oilfield. Simple formulas to access optimal reservoir heat temperature using rela - tive permeabilities for different temperatures were suggested. Correlation of optimal reservoir heat temperature vs. oil and gas prices ratio was determined using experimental data. It was determined that dependence of the relative permeability from temperature strongly affected on results of thermal recovery simulation. This suggests that application of same relative permeability functions for all temperatures in thermal recovery simulation models is incorrect.

Monitoring development of Tatneft oil fields characterized by high degree of reserves depletion

DOI:
This paper presents a profile of incremental oil production obtained at the Romashkinskoye field and other oil fields of the Republic of Tatarstan using different improved/enhanced oil recovery methods. It is shown that oil production increment due to standard techniques application (well drilling, EOR, reactivation of wells that have been out of production) has been reduced compared with that achieved using improved water flooding systems and other methods. The paper also discusses the main optimization trends for development systems at high levels of oil reserves depletion.

Tatneft OAO experience of horizontal wells operation

DOI:
While waterflooding is a standard method used to develop terrigenous reservoirs, for development of carbonate reservoirs Tatneft OAO extensively uses horizontal technologies, that is, drilling and operation of wells with complex configuration including horizontal and multilateral horizontal wells. Horizontal technologies help to decrease total number of planned wells as well as optimize technical and economic performance of reservoirs under development. The main benefit of horizontal drilling become available.

Differentiating reservoir properties of terrigenous bobrik reservoirs derived from core and log data

DOI:
The purpose of this paper is to develop the technology for differentiation of oil reservoirs according to percolation index, and, thereupon, to gain more accurate permeability/porosity curves. The survey was carried out with a large volume of core material acquired from Lower Carbon deposits in oil fields of Tatarstan (Russia). It resulted in surveying of petrographic and petrophysical features of core, in studying of porosity and permeability distribution, electrical resistivity, bound water, and in estimation of percolation index boundaries for differentiation of reservoirs. Refined permeability-porosity curves were generated in identified percolation index intervals which are characterized by a higher level of connection and therefore improve reliability of permeability estimation resulting from well logging data interpretation. The acquired data indicates that the technology may be used in other areas and in other lithological sequences during solving of geological tasks and development of oil fields.

Analyzing efficiency of chemical neutralization of hydrogen sulphide in oil

DOI:
Currently Tatneft Company produces more than 11 million tons of sulfurous oil annually. After GOST R 51858-2002 specifying the limiting concentration of hydrogen sulfide in stock-tank oil has been put in action, wide-scale investigation and development of effective H2S removal methods have come to the forefront of the company’s activity. Neutralization of H2S with chemical agents has proved its effectiveness, and what is equally important, this method does not call for heavy investments.

Acoustic waves resonance absorption and its use for monitoring of the porous reservoirs development

DOI:
On the basis of theoretical model of low-frequency acoustic vibrations effect on the oil-saturated porous reservoir, it is shown, that at acoustic waves propagation in biphase fluid saturated porous hydrophilic media the existence of the additional damping mechanism, connected with а resonance absorption of a wave energy by a capillary-trapped part of residual oil, is possible. The size of additional absorption factor depends on a wave frequency, reservoir parameters and a current reservoir oil-saturation in absorption zone. It is shown, that it is possible to determine the distribution of residual reserves on the area of an investigated site and to specify a stage of its development, using system - a source in one well - receivers in the next wells.

DOI:
Formation damage, a common problem associated with field operations, is often a major factor in reducing the productivity and injectivity of a well in a petroleum reservoir. The main formation damage mechanisms were considered  in the article. Laboratory and field formation damage experiments were analyzed that describes a number of factors  affecting on kinetics of permeability damage. As a result a typical relation of permeability reduction was obtained. A profile of permeability distribution related to radius and time of filtration is considered.
