The article considers the history of exploration and development of the unique Romashkinskoye oil field from 1933 until the present day. At the present stage, geological exploration operations for further increment of oil reserves should focus, primarily, on prospecting small oil deposits confined to frontier locally producing intervals. Moreover, a particular emphasis is given to the studies of crystalline basement, fracture system and unconsolidated zones in the sedimentary cover.
