One of the ways to reduce geological risks during exploration and prospecting

is to analyze earlier exploration data covering a large number of oil-bearing

structures, as well as those structures which didn’t prove to be oil-bearing.

This paper reports key reasons for unsuccessful wildcat drilling in South-Tatar

Dome area, presents the results of comparison against successfully drilled

structures and proposes solutions to improve exploration success rate.
