Ravil Rustamovich Ibatullin

Ravil Rustamovich is three times Winner of Russian Federation Governmental Prize in the field of Science and Technique (1995, 2006, and 2012), Winner of State Prize of the Republic of Tatarstan in the field of Science and Technique (1999). He is a well-known specialist in oil fields development, enhanced oil recovery and production stimulation, microbiological methods of oil spill control. He created scientific schools on the development and industrial application of enhanced oil recovery methods, information technologies in the reservoir and production engineering and methods for solving problems in the oil fields development based on artificial intelligence.
The following projects have been developed and implemented under his leadership on a large industrial scale: steam-assisted gravity treatment method on heavy oils, enhanced oil recovery method based on the use of non-ionic surfactants, as well as polymers.
Technologies for enhanced oil recovery and production stimulation based on microbiological treatment and microbiological technologies for soil and water cleanup from oil contamination have been developed and are being commercially applied. Nine doctoral and eighteen candidates’ theses were defended under his leadership.
He has published both personally and co-authored 731 scientific works, including 11 monographs, 270 patents for inventions, 29 patents for utility models, 11 foreign patents for inventions.
R.R. Ibatullin is a member of the Council for the defense of doctoral and candidates’ theses at TatNIPIneft, a member of the Dissertation Council at the Kazan National Research Technological University (KNRTU), a member of the editorial boards of the Russian Oil Industry Journal, the Azerbaijani Scientific Works of NIPIneftegaz Journal and an SPE member.
He participated with scientific reports in three World Petroleum Congresses (1999, 2008, 2011) and the First Russian Petroleum Congress (2011), he was the Chairman of the oil field development section at the 18th World Petroleum Congress in 2005, and Co-Chairman of the section at the 21st World Petroleum Congress in 2014.
He was awarded the medal For Services to the Fatherland of the 2d degree (2009), medals In memory of the 1000th anniversary of Kazan (2005), In commemoration of the extraction of the three billionth ton of oil in Tatarstan (2007), 150 years since the birth of V.I. Vernadsky (2013), he was awarded the title of Honored Oilman of the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Russian Federation (2006). Awarded with the Certificate of Appreciation of the Republic of Tatarstan (1996), Letters of Appreciation from: the President of the Republic of Tatarstan (2008), the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan (2006), the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan (2010), badges Excellence in Invention and Rationalization (2006), For Merit in Invention and Rationalization (2012).
